Eccrine Gland System (213X zoom)

Foam, tissue paper, spray paint, acrylic paint, duct tape, roofing vent, corrugated tubing, vent caps, screws, nails.

The eccrine gland system involves the human body's sweat pores, whose function is similar to that of a ventilation system. Here, this relationship is visualized using an enlarged finger tip with pores and a roofing vent with tubing.

MUDTERROR

Wood, handmade paper, foam, hinges, nails, screws.

The book has two spines on either side; one with thick, black, embossed cotton + abaca pages and the other with thin, off-white, cut sisal pages. The pages alternate between a squid-like creature shifting from one side to the other and my silhouette in the same manner (except my silhouette pages increase in page count per signature, decreasing in page size). The sequence ends with my silhouette cut out of the thick, black paper.

The book is based around a dream involving a creature with many appendages slowly moving towards me while trapped in a mud-like substance.

Hypothetical Deconstruction Sculpture

Take an object, for instance a violin, and deconstruct it into the tiniest of pieces: atoms. Spread the atoms across an area in a grid formation with the space in between each atom being the same size as each atom. The area would be enormous, seemingly empty, but something would still exist beneath your feet.

X: Water, Y: Sunlight, Subject: Sunflower

Taking the traditional bar graph or really any axis-based data representation and replacing standard lines, dots, or bars with images.

The idea is to take two forces or attributes and plot them against a subject to see how they change independently and converge together. Aside from the axes I have created change, other axes work indirectly such as petal count, height of stem, and radius of flower.

Just a study.

Pigeon Poop Building Mapping

An alternative way to map out a building: via the pigeon poop that is excreted atop and inside it.

Height of pigeon correlated to size/spread and opacity of poop splat.

Inspiration for this came from a building I travel through to get to work that has similar open doorways and multiple levels of support beams. Pigeons often use these beams as a platform to poop off of.

Drawn using Illustrator CS3.

Secrets Sculpture

This is an awful depiction of it, but it gets the general idea down.

Other objects of flat nature could be placed between the wood such as an envelope, card, origami; anything wished to be kept secret.

Insipiration by Yoko Ono's "Grapefruit" collection of poems.

12-Page Wooden Accordion Book

Wood, paper, string, hinges, screws.

I found two pieces of wood that were almost identical and decided to put a book between them. Both pieces of wood are misshapen and curved inward so the book doesn't close entirely. The pages are blank, but when folded out make an interesting shape.

I like the idea of putting a book between two either related or disparate objects. There could be text or images to put on the pages pertaining to the connection that I have made. Hmmm.

Self-referencing Poem Book

A poem would first have to be constructed. 40 lines total with 4 to 8 lines that repeat. The A, B, C and D labels are holes in the pages; at these points the line that is used is the same line as somewhere else in the poem. For example: on page 2 (inside) the first line would be the same as the first line on page 3 (outside), but on page 2 (outside) the first line would be the same as the first line on page 1 (inside). The book would have to be unfolded page by page in order for the poem to be read.

Minimalistic musical performance(s)

I've thought for awhile now that it would be great to get a slot on a local show, set up all my band's equipment, then once we're set to go play the loudest note possible (just one), wait for it to resonate, break down all the equipment and move on.
(this performance is about action, or lack thereof)

I've also thought it would be great to set up a MySpace, Pure Volume, last.fm, etc. account for a band, produce music of a certain genre, hype that music all over the web, eventually land a gig, and when it's our turn to play we play something absolutely and completely different than what anyone has heard from us online.
(this performance is about reaction and deception)

I might start applying -tion's to each piece.
